Jacques Q&A

Other sports played and to what level
Rugby school first team
Marital status
dating Shamone Jardim
Favourite Ground
Sahara Park Newlands my home ground, the best atmosphere and Bangalore.
Most memorable day in cricket and why
Making my debut and beating England and Australia.
Most valuable contribution to the team cause? First hundred against Australia
Best innings/bowling spell? The above innings and 6/67 vs. West Indies in Barbados in 2001
Early influences on career? My father, Bob Woolmer & Duncan Fletcher
Story behind your nickname Jakes?

When I was a teenager my friends were too lazy to say Jacques so they sort of blurted out Jakes and it stuck.

Have you heard of your namesake Jake the snake roberts (WWE)? Not really. But by the sound of him I wouldn't want to come across him in a dark alley!
What do you do to relax off the field? Golf and more golf
How long before you catch up with Rahul Dravid in both Test runs and catches? It will be a tough fight for sure. Both of us are healthy and have a few years yet. I can tell you one thing though, no one is going to catch up with Sachin.
First thing you do when you step onto a cricket ground? Walk straight to the wicket. Ha Ha. No superstitions really. Works for me!
First television advert? I did this ad for Sanex. I had to run around the beach in Durban with a cute labrador. It was a ball.
Best cricketer in the world? Steve Waugh. He represents to me the perfect balance between someone who played hard on the field and was a good person off it. I still remember his innings against us when he survived an incredible fast session of bowling from Allan Donald and went on to make a score that hurt us. That was gutsy stuff!!
Funniest thing that has happened to you from a fan? A while ago when playing in SA, I would park my Chevrolet Lumina at the grounds and would come back to find flower bouquets with phone numbers attached. Am happily dating Shamone so luckily the ladies are respecting that.
Any message for your Bangalore fans? Come ye all and support us!! We've been playing some good cricket so far in this IPL and we'll do our best to keep it goig for you guys. Hopefully I can keep staying not out too.
How would you like to be remembered? As someone who never gave up and always fought to the death and was proud to have played for his country. The Jacques Kallis Scholarship Foundation is also a legacy I am proud of.
Your favourite scholar in your Jacques Kallis Foundation? All of them. I was nuts about cricket at school and so are they. I can't pick one as it's difficult to judge them when they are still at school. What I'd love is to be sitting in the stand, sipping beer watching one of them play for SA. That would be great.
What will be on your gravestone? Here lies a man who lived to 100 and will be remembered for his kindness.
Can you surf?

Scared of the little fish called Sharks so no I can't.

First thing you bought with your IPL money?

Well I have put it all into investments now. My manager works hard on all that while I play cricket! If it grows I would love to buy a ferrari!!

What makes you laugh? Seeing Bouchies face when I take money off him on the golf course.
Which superpower would you choose: Invisibility or Strength? Invisibility.
Favourite possession? My girl friend Shamone. Hee Hee
What is the secret to getting Mathew Hayden out? He's a world class player who is intimidating. The only thing to do with him would be to allow him no freebies and get him out of his game plan.
How have you improved with T20? I have been working on it with Duncan Fletcher for a year or two now because i wanted sucess in the T20 format. There have been one or two technical adjustments I have made but the key thing has been the mental adjustment. T20 is a format in which the risks and rewards are much higher and I have managed to make more space in my head to hit the ball.
What would be an indulgence for you? A day of pampering at the Spa.
